- First wash your hands with soap and water or hand sanitizer before taking your face mask off.
- Avoid touching the front of your face mask.
- Handle by the ear straps only.
- The front of the mask is dirty and contaminated at this point because you have worn it out in public. Therefore, take off mask by the elastic band around each ear. Hold both of the ear loops and gently lift and remove from face and place in sink.
Washing Your Face Masks

Add a few drops of laundry detergent or antibacterial soap directly on the mask, or place a few drops of soap directly in warm water using a sink. Rub mask for at least 20 seconds and rinse. Place wet mask on paper towel on the countertop to dry. Or you may opt to place non-dripping wet mask over a towel rack or on a hanger to complete the drying process. To dry in clothes dryer, place face mask in dryer on very low heat for 10 minutes to avoid melting the elastic.
- TIP #1: We at EmmysFaceMasks.com recommend you hand-wash your cotton/quilted-cotton face mask immediately after each use. When removing your face mask from your face, remove from the elastic bands so as to not touch the front. Always wash your hands immediately after touching a used face mask.
- TIP #2: We recommend when drying your darker color face masks, do not overlap with lighter color face masks as the darker color may run onto lighter color masks.
- TIP #3: Are your face masks too wrinkled after washing and drying? Yes, it’s okay to iron your face masks; cloth portions only! DO NOT IRON over the ELASTIC as it will melt!
Follow the above tips; your high-quality face masks will last for a long time and you will be a part of the solution of ending the COVID-19 global pandemic through “Masking Communities … Saving Lives!TM
